What Is wargo?
wargo is a kimono rental chain that started in Kyoto. It rents kimono for sightseeing as well as formal kimono for events, and it’s known for low prices backed by a very large stock — the company buys directly through Kyoto kimono wholesalers.
For visitors, the main appeal is simple: you walk in with nothing, get fully dressed in about an hour, and go sightseeing in a kimono for the day.

Which store should you choose?
- Kyoto Gion: best for walking straight into Higashiyama — Yasaka Pagoda, Ninenzaka and Kiyomizu-dera. See our Kyoto kimono rental guide for a walking route.
- Kyoto Station: best if you arrive by Shinkansen or plan to visit Fushimi Inari.
- Tokyo Asakusa: the classic Tokyo kimono experience around Senso-ji Temple and Nakamise Street.
- Kanazawa: pair it with the Higashi Chaya teahouse district for beautiful, less crowded photos. See our Kanazawa kimono rental guide for a walking route.
- Kawagoe: an easy day trip from Tokyo to the “Little Edo” old town.
Note the last dressing time: in Kyoto it’s 15:30, so book a morning or early-afternoon slot if you want plenty of time outside.

- Book early in peak seasons: late March to early April and November are the busiest.
- Wear a thin top with an open neckline in cold weather — it fits under the kimono. See what to wear under a kimono for details.
- Travel day? Bring your suitcase: wargo stores one large bag per person for free. Ask the store in advance if you have more.
- Stay connected for maps and photos: a travel eSIM makes navigating in a kimono much easier. See our Japan eSIM guide.
